Every time a customer uses our apps, makes a purchase, or chooses a product, they generate data. This data is incredibly important, but how can it help us grow, transform, and prepare for whatever the future brings? That’s where our Data Science teams come in.
We're experts in collecting and analysing large data sets, and we use this knowledge to help teams across the business spot and understand opportunities and challenges. We design software, integrate machine learning and more, to create data-led solutions, predict customer outcomes and model risks. It means there’s no shortage of interesting problems to solve or ways to make an impact on our 26 million customers.
Right now, we're looking for more new talent join us. If you have an inquisitive, analytical mind and a good grasp of coding in Python, we want to hear from you.
If you want to work in data, wouldn’t you want to work where the scale of data is almost unrivalled? Somewhere with established processes and production systems you can learn from? Somewhere that will give you the structure and support you need to excel?
That’s exactly what our scheme offers. As well as the vast amounts of data you’ll be working with and problems you’ll be solving, you’ll do it as part of an extremely experienced and supportive team. As individuals, we're incredibly diverse – in attitude, skills and ways of thinking – but we share an appreciation for innovation and learning. It takes drive and resilience to keep discovering new solutions, but you won’t do it on your own. We know that collaborating to solve a problem makes for a stronger solution and everyone, at every level, is here to help you learn.
And to ensure you become a data scientist with deep understanding of how to impact change, our scheme pairs you with different business areas – from Risk through to Commercial. Our flexible working policy means you can balance working from home with time in the office.
Over two years, you’ll learn to solve all kinds of business problems and become a skilled data scientist within an inclusive, diverse and collaborative team of people.
We want to give you broad experience with diverse challenges. Throughout your three placements, you’ll work with other data scientists and data engineers in multi-disciplinary teams to understand client and business problems. You’ll find solutions that improve the way we work and the way customers bank. And through it, build a well-rounded skillset and understanding of the disciplines that lead to successful data science delivery.
As well as helping you develop agile ways of working, we’ll encourage you to work to your strengths and grow beyond them through training and networking opportunities. And at the end of the scheme, you’ll have a portfolio of tried and tested data-led solutions that show your skills, and could lead to a varied and successful career across the Group.
You’ll start with a bootcamp, fast-tracking your understanding of the Group and data science
Across three eight-month placements you’ll develop core data science, data engineering and software engineering skills
Regular touchpoints with dedicated mentors, events and ongoing support will ensure you’re getting the most out of the scheme
After two years, you’ll be ready to find your permanent role in our Group with well-rounded data science experience and in-depth understanding of 1–2 business areas
A 2:2 degree or above in any discipline from any university. PhD and master’s students are welcome.
Due to the technical nature of this scheme, you’ll also need a strong understanding of Python coding techniques and the mathematical ability to analyse data and statistics using methods like modelling and probabilities.
